According to single parent charity Gingerbread, the Government's shake up of the child maintenance system will mean that millions of pounds for children will be lost, as 100,000 parents are expected to drop out of the system and stop getting child maintenance altogether.

Monthly child support payments in the United States averaged $430 per month in 2010, according to new U.S. Census Bureau statistics.

A new report by think tank Policy Exchange has said that fathers who no longer live with their partners and are on benefits should be made to work if they refuse to take financial responsibility for their children.

The latest Child Support Agency figures show that just over 876,000 children were benefiting from child maintenance payments at the end October, up by 7,400 on the previous quarter.

The Child Support Agency (CSA) has published a list of excuses given by parents for not paying child maintenance, reports the Herald.
