The US Census Bureau has published a series of facts on fathers in America.
According to the data, there are an estimated 70.1 million fathers across America. Of these:
- 24.7 million were part of married-couple families with children younger than 18 in 2011,
- 21% were raising three or more children younger than 18 (among married-couple family households only),
- 3% lived in someone else's home, and
- 1.7 million were single fathers in 2011, of which about 45% were divorced, 31% were never married, 19% were separated, and 5% were widowed.
The figures were produced to mark the run up to Fathers Day, which takes place in June.
