Child Maintenance Options service reaches key milestone

The Child Maintenance and Enforcement Commission has announced that its Child Maintenance Options service is now being used to provide regular support to over 100,000 children.

Child Maintenance Options offers separating parents an alternative in determining the level of child maintenance appropriate for their circumstances. Under the Options service parents are encouraged and supported to agree between themselves the most suitable child support arrangement, rather than have a payment schedule calculated for them by the Child Support Agency.

Commenting on the figures, Work and Pensions Minister Maria Miller said:

“We want separated families to have the right support to work out their own child maintenance arrangements without the state getting involved.

Today’s figures show that with the right help parents can come to their own family-based arrangements. We want to build on the support provided by Child Maintenance Options to help many more children in separated families - including the huge numbers who do not currently benefit from any child maintenance at all.”
