How to have a civilised divorce

Debretts, the manners and social etiquette guru, has teamed up with a legal firm to publish a 'Guide to civilised separation,' reports the Daily Mail.

According to Debretts, the guide “covers not just the common courtesy and cooperation that should be associated with separation, but deals with how you handle ex-partners, the impact on children and maintaining civilised relationships with former in-laws and friends.”

Information contained in the guide includes:

  • a recommendation to avoid disposing of your ex-partners vintage wine collection down the toilet, as this will only reflect badly in court,
  • advice for women on what to consider when deciding whether to revert to their maiden name, and
  • advice on how to avoid becoming “a dinner party bore.”
