France to introduce same-sex marriage

Draft legislation on same-sex marriage and adoption is to be introduced to the French parliament in January next year, reports the Guardian.

The law would allow all couples, regardless of their sexual orientation, to get married and to receive inheritance and pension rights. It would also allow all married couples, including gay couples, to adopt. Unmarried couples however will still not have the right to adopt.

According to the Guardian, the new legislation will also amend the French legal code by replacing any reference to “mother” or “father” with the single term “parent”.
