Having children can affect relationships

A recent survey by website Netmums has found that having children can put relationships under strain.

The survey questioned around 1,500 members on the current state of their relationship with their partner. Around half of respondents felt that their relationship was “good” or “strong, but about 25% weren't sure whether they would still be with their current partner in ten years time. A further 14% said that their relationship was “rocky”.

The most common causes of strain in a relationship were found to be exhaustion over caring for children, and money or debt worries. Lack of time together as a couple was also found to be a major problem, with around 80% of respondents saying they didn't get enough time together on their own.

The survey also found that, of those respondents who had been in a failed relationship, 42% had separated within a year of being together, and a third had broken up after being together between one and four years.
