Victims of forced marriage in Scotland will benefit from greater protection now that the Forced Marriage (Protection and Jurisdiction) (Scotland) Act 2011 has come into force.

MSPs have backed a new law to protect people being forced into marriage against their will. The Forced Marriage etc (Protection & Jurisdiction)(Scotland) Act 2011 will make it a criminal offence to breach new laws leading to a two year prison sentence, a fine of up to £10,000, or both.
