Nine-year jail term for domestic abuser

At the High Court in Edinburgh, a 52-year old man from Glasgow has been given a 15-year extended sentence for a 30-year campaign of violence and domestic abuse against women. He will spend nine years in custody, reduced from ten years to reflect his guilty plea.

He pled guilty to five charges of assault to danger of life against five women, each of whom had been his partner at the time of the offences.

Anne Marie Hicks, head of the Domestic Abuse Unit in the Glasgow Procurator Fiscal's Office, said:

"This is one of the most severe cases of domestic abuse we have ever dealt with, and I hope it will serve as a warning to other abusers that they will be pursued and will be sent to prison.

"Domestic abuse remains one of the most deplorable crimes known to our society. There is no place for it and no excuse for it.

"COPFS will continue to work with the police to bring these abusers to justice, and will use every power available under law to prosecute the perpetrators of domestic abuse, no matter how long ago the crimes took place."
