New research has found that women are more likely than men to find their partner irritating.
According to the research, released by Understanding Society, 72% of women who live with their partner say that their partners get on their nerves, compared with 59% of men.
However, on a more positive note, the data also reveals a strong tendency among couples to share their worries and rely on each other:
- 98% say they can rely on their partners a lot (83%) somewhat (11%) or a little (4%).
- 96% say they talk about worries with their partner a lot (65%) somewhat (23%) or a little (8%).
The research also found that as people get older they find their partners less irritating. Only 29% of people aged between 16 and 34 say their partners don’t get on their nerves at all, compared with 30% of 35-54-year-olds, 35% of 55-64-year-olds and 40% of people aged over 65.
In addition, older people are less likely to let their partners down. Around 74% of over 65s say their partners never let them down, compared with 65% of 16-34-year-olds and 35-54-year-olds, and 67% of 55-64-year-olds.
